Iliza Schlesinger Sued for Discrimination After Girls-Only Performance

A man has filed a discrimination lawsuit against comedian Iliza Shlesinger, stating that her "Girls' Night In" comedy show violates California law prohibiting discrimination based on sex. George St. George claims he and a friend bought $30 tickets to the show at the Largo at the Coronet Theater in Los Angeles. When they arrived and picked up their tickets at will call, St. George claims they were told they would have to sit in the back. When they came back later, he says they were barred entry and told they would be given refunds.

The suit offers that the show violates the Unruh Civil Rights Act. It also cites the 1985 Supreme Court case, Koire v. Metro Car Wash, which basically bans "ladies' night" promotions. The suit also compares St. George and his friend's treatment to the injustices perpetrated during the Civil Rights Movement.

This is not the first "ladies' night" promotion St. George has filed suit against, and he seeks "statutory damages" for violations of the Unruh Act. His attorney, Alfred Rava, seems to be making a career out of cases like this, having filed over 150 complaints against California businesses over Unruh violations.

Shlesinger is the first woman to win Last Comic Standing, and she created the ABC digital series Forever 31.
