Marvel's Daredevil Season 3: Joanne Whalley Cast as Sister Maggie and a New Showrunner
Since the final scene of Marvel's the Defenders with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) lying in a bed in a church and a nun telling another to get Sister Maggie, fans of the comics new where it was headed. Born Again, the celebrated run by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli, featured one of the greatest battles between Daredevil and Kingpin in that it got very personal and Wilson Fisk tore everything away from Murdock. Today we've heard that Erik Oleson (Man in the High Castle) is going to be the new showrunner for Marvel's Daredevil Season 3 and the series has cast Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) as Sister Maggie.
Marvel's head TV guy, Jeph Loeb, said in a statement:
We are big fans of Joanne's work and are fortunate that someone of her caliber will be joining our already talented family.
Oleson said:
Joanne is a rare talent and a terrific creative collaborator. Watching her bring her role to life has the writers all pinching ourselves.
Along with Whalley and Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio is coming back as Wilson Fisk. Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll are expected to reprise their roles as Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. The series has also added Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) in an unspecified role.
As to how Born Again might fit into the Netflix universe, I took a look at that last summer.
