"Modern Family": 3 Things The Pritchetts, Dunphys & Tucker-Pritchetts Have Us Thankful For

In order to fill the emptiness left behind with the lack of ABC's Modern Family this week and in honor of Thanksgiving week, I decided to commemorate the things about the show that I am most thankful for. Quite honestly, there were too many so I settled on three core topics that really impact me on a deeper level. So without further ado, here are the three reasons why I've loved (if not always liked) Modern Family:

Family Dynamic & Diversity: having latinx representation is something that really matters to me—especially when the only latina in question is not a cliché maid. I could rant for hours over how much I hate that, but we are talking about things we love here today, right? Not just that, but the family interaction reminds me so much of my own family. We see their good sides and their bad sides. Most importantly, they do not make excuses for being themselves and quite often we see them face the consequences of their actions.

Phil (Ty Burrell): I mentioned already how much the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker family reminds me of my own. However, being a daddy's girl—nothing beats Phil as a dad. He reminds me so much of my own. It is amazing how Burrell manages to make every single scene with the kids so heart-felt. Whenever there are scenes with Phil it truly feels like a hug from the screen. Actually, I think this show has very strong father figures in general.

Strong Female Characters: While I still feel they sometimes do not know where to go with some characters—you know, like Alex (Ariel Winter) and Claire (Julie Bowen)—I'm still so thankful for how they strong they portray women in Modern Family. They are all assertive, determined, and independent. Not just Alex and Claire, but also Gloria (Sofia Vergara), Haley (Sarah Hyland), and Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons). We also see it in most of the supporting characters as well.

MODERN FAMILY (ABC/Robert Ashcroft)

With this last season, it is incredibly sad to say goodbye to a show that has been a constant companion for years. It is mix of excitement, anxiety, and nostalgia as I look forward to rollercoaster ride of emotions with the episodes they have left. I cannot wait to see where the storylines actually go.
