Original 'Gods and Heroes' Anime Coming to Netflix

If you're a fan of Greek mythology, your world is about to (hopefully) get rocked by Netflix with their new original anime series, Gods & Heroes.

Original 'Gods and Heroes' Anime Coming to Netflix

The new animated series is the creation of  Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the creative duo behind Death Note and Immortals. Both Parlapanides will be serving as writers and executive producers on the show:

In Gods & Heroes we wanted to tell a wholly original story set in the beloved world of Greek mythology. We are thankful for such an amazing cast and for such great creative partners at Netflix and Powerhouse Animation, who continue to push the envelope and expand the anime genre in a manner we had only dreamed of.

Powerhouse Animation will be handling the visuals for Gods & Heroes, and that's pretty good news! Powerhouse did some fantastic work on Netflix' Castlevania series, and have proven themselves capable of delivering a visually striking series.

Gods & Heroes will chronicle the adventures of one of Zeus' many illegitimate children, trying to keep the earth safe from a vengeful goddess. Sounds like your typical "Hera's steamed at yet another bastard child of her horn-dog husband" story, but that's half of Greek mythology, right?

Hopefully, Zeus will be portrayed as something other than benevolent, because that dude had some seriously problematic behaviors regarding women.

The vocal cast for Gods & Heroes includes Jason O'Mara, Mamie Gummer, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jessica Henwick, Melina Kanakaredes, Claudia Christian, Elias Toufexis, and Derek Phillips.

Netflix already has a pretty impressive stable of original animation programming, with The Dragon Prince, Castlevania, Voltron, and Godzilla: The Planet Eater leading the way for more original animated programming like the upcoming Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, and Ghost in the Shell series.

With all of these original anime series coming to Netflix, it's hard not to with certain other shows hadn't come to the streaming service as animated programs. The Umbrella Academy was a lot of fun, but missing a lot of the weirdness and pop chaos that Gabriel Bá's art brought to the comics, which could have been realized through animation.

We don't have a release date for Gods & Heroes yet, but we'll let you know when the 8-episode first season will debut on Netflix as soon as we hear about it.
