Los Angeles Rams Cut Tyrunn Walker Amid Sexual Assault Accusations
In March, defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker signed with the Los Angeles Rams. The 27-year old from New Iberia, Louisiana has been in the NFL four years, the first two with the New Orleans Saints and the last two with the Detroit Lions. The Rams signed him to back up Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald. He wasn't expected to get a lot of playing time behind those two and with the depth the Rams have on the defensive line.
As of now he won't get any playing time at all as the team has cut him amid reports that Walker is accused of sexual assault in Lafayette, Louisiana. No charges have been filed at this time and ESPN's Alden Gonzalez was told that his release was mainly due to them not having a place on the roster for him. Cutting Walker will count for $80,000 against the salary cap for the year.
The Baton Rouge Advocate says that authorities are wrapping up the investigation of the claims made by two women against Walker and an acquaintance on February 28th. Lafayette Parish District Attorney Keith Stutes says detectives forwarded their findings and the decision of whether or not to present the evidence to a grand jury is still pending.
The investigators declined to discuss the case, the Advocate obtained a civil court filing that accuses Walker and Justin Williams of possibly drugging the women at a nightclub, taking them to a hotel and forcing them into sexual acts. Restraining orders were granted against the two men.
Walker's agent declined to comment, and no attorney statements have been made on his behalf.
