Jacksonville Jaguars Owner Open To Signing Colin Kaepernick

Could there be an even bigger shakeup coming to the Jacksonville Jaguars than just whether the team is ready to give up on Blake Bortles? Early this week it was reported that Chad Henne would get the start in the third preseason game against the Carolina Panthers over incumbent starter Blake Bortles, signaling that the team may be ready to cut ties with the 2012 draft pick.

Jacksonville JaguarsBoth quarterbacks got a chance to play last night in the teams 24-23 loss, but neither of them did anything to secure the starting job. Henne was 8 of 13 for 74 yards while Bortles was 12 of 16 for 125 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the second string defense.

According to the team's website, Coach Doug Marrone said: "I'm not going to stand up here and comment a lot on the two. I'm going to go back and look at things and see where we're at."

It didn't help that the run game for both quarterback was rather sad, often times ending up with negative yards. With only one preseason game left, what can the team do to turn things around?

If you're talking to the team owner, Shad Khan, the answer might be Colin Kaepernick. On Thursday night, Khan told Mike Dempsey of 1010 XL / 92.5 FM that he would be willing to signed the controversial quarterback if that is what the team's football personnel wanted to do. Kaepernick has yet to find a team this off season after not being resigned by the San Francisco 49ers. Though he made the Superbowl back in 2012, his has fallen quite a bit since then and then made a political statement by kneeling during the national anthem.

A group of protesters demonstrated outside of the NFL corporate headquarters the other night, believing that Kaepernick is being blackballed because of his protests. Others say his diminishing play and that he could only thrive in a certain type of offense. He visited with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens this off-season but neither team signed him. A recent injury opening with the Miami Dolphins went to the recently retired Jay Cutler instead because of his familiarity with the offense they're running now under head coach Adam Gase.

Though Khan says he is open to it, there is no indication that Marrone and his coaching staff believe that Kaepernick is the answer… but if they continue to get uninspired play out of Bortles and Henne, that might change.
