NFL's Torrey Smith Pays For 46 Pet Adoptions At Baltimore Shelter Event

Too often we hear horrible stories involving sports figures. The more stories we hear, we become jaded and expect every athlete to be like that… but that's because scandals get the clicks. But there are some amazing athletes out there that reach out to their communities and try to find ways to help, using the money and influence their abilities have afforded them. Those are the stories I like to talk about. The ones where an athlete takes the time to help others. And in some cases, when players move to other teams, they not only try to connect with their new communities, but they continue their work in the ones the just left. That's what we've got here today.

Wide receiver Torrey Smith spent move of his career so far with the Baltimore Ravens, the last two years with the San Francisco 49ers, and just signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is quite removed from his time with the city of Baltimore. Smith, 28, and his wife Chanel are regular attendees at the BARCS Animal Shelter Pawject Runway event to raise money and awareness for Baltimore's homeless, neglected and abused animals. Smith continued his tradition of speaking to the crowd at the end of the show. The couple wanted to do something special this year and announced that they would cover the adoption fees for all the cats and dogs at the show. They wanted all 46 animals to find a home that night. Then they made an additional donation on top of that.

Here is a photo of Torrey, Chanel and two of their friends from 2015.
