Superman: Legacy Cast "More" Than 90% Locked In & More Updates

Superman: Legacy writer/director James Gunn offered a New Year's Day production update, confirming "more" than 90% of the cast is locked in.

Article Summary

  • James Gunn confirms over 90% of the Superman: Legacy cast is set.
  • Superman: Legacy to begin filming in March 2024 with a July 2025 release.
  • The film stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
  • James Gunn discredits a circulating logline and clarifies the plot details that were wrong.

Well, that didn't take long. Not even a full day into the new year and DC Studios Co-CEO & the film's writer/director James Gunn shared an update on how things were looking with Superman: Legacy ahead of its March 2024 filming start. "It's going swimmingly. Sets being built, costumes being finished, actors studying roles, prosthetics and VFX models being made, flights booked. Here we go." Gunn responded on Threads earlier today when asked for a production update. In follow-ups, Gunn confirmed that "more" than 90% of the cast has been locked in but less than 100% – and folks shouldn't assume that the concept art & design for the costumes is finished.

Superman: Legacy: Gunn Confirms March 2024 Start; No Fan of Logline

"Not sure where this logline came from. I didn't write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I've said in the past). But I wouldn't describe the plot this way, & I wouldn't call Clark a cub reporter. He's a thirty-year-old full-on reporter," Gunn penned in his social media response from last month, offering an even clearer picture of Clark's age and career level at the point when we meet him while also disavowing the logline included in a number of production lists. As for when filming is expected to begin, Gunn added, "But, yeah, we shoot in March. I'm grateful every day our production team worked their asses off to keep things going through the strikes. Forces impelled us to stop many times – & if we had, we'd never make July 2025."

Set for a July 11, 2025, premiere, DC Studios' Superman: Legacy stars (so far) David Corenswet (Hollywood) as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane. In addition, the cast includes Nicholas Hoult (The Great) as Lex Luthor,  Isabela Merced (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho. Now, here's a look back at the screencap we shared prior to Gunn's confirmation that listed March 2024 as being the start of filming:
