Two and a Half Men: Jon Cryer Happy for Charlie Sheen (But No Reboot)
Jon Cryer (Extended Family) is happy for former co-star Charle Sheen's success - but don't expect a Two and a Half Men reboot anytime soon.
Jon Cryer couldn't be happier for his Hot Shots! (1991) and Two and a Half Men co-star Charlie Sheen, but fans shouldn't expect any reboot or revival of the Chuck Lorre series anytime soon given the behind-the-scenes history. Appearing on The View to promote his NBC current sitcom Extended Family, the actor was asked about revisiting the sitcom in a reboot, given the popularity of revivals, legacy sequels, and more. Suffice it to say, he wasn't too keen but at least could be proud that Sheen and Lorre buried the hatchet for his new Max show Bookie.
"Oh gosh, oh gosh, I don't know how that happens," Cryer said. "Thing is, Charlie is doing a lot better now, which is wonderful. He and I have not spoken in a few years but he's doing a lot better, which obviously I am happy about. Chuck Lorre, who produced 'Two and a Half Men'…one of the hardest things for him when 'Two and a Half Men' fell apart the way it did is he really thought he was friends with Charlie. And that he lost that was really heartbreaking for him. So that they have reconciled is really lovely."
The premiere episode of the Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey-starred series featured a Two and a Half Men reunion with Sheen and Angus T. Jones recreating their premiere episode poker game in 2003 with the original actors. Cryer, who's appeared in an episode of Lorre's The Kominsky Method on Netflix, recently made a memorable run as Lex Luthor in the CBS/The CW superhero series Supergirl. The actor reminded everyone of Sheen's public meltdown that forced the show to scramble for another co-lead with Ashton Kutcher in an original role in season nine following Sheen's departure in season eight.
"The thing for me is, when 'Two and a Half Men was happening, Charlie was like the highest-paid actor in television – probably ever," Cryer explained. "And there has been nobody that has surpassed the enormous amount of money he was making. And yet he blew it up. So you kinda have to think…I love him, I wish him the best, and that he should live in good health for the rest of his life, but I don't know if I want to get in business with him for any length of time. If it was a one-off or…"
The View co-host Ana Navarro suggested Two and a Half Men could have an event similar to Max's Friends reunion in 2021 for that one-off and huge payday, to which Cryer responded, "That sounds fair." Extended Family, which also stars Donald Faison, Abigail Spencer, Sofia Capanna, Finn Sweeney, and Lenny Clarke, airs on Fridays on NBC and streams on Peacock. You can also stream Two and a Half Men on Peacock.
