WWE Announces New Years Evil Special for First NXT of 2021
At last night's NXT Takeover WarGames PPV, WWE revealed that the first episode of NXT to air on USA Network in 2021 will be a special episode called New Years Evil. New Years Evil was originally supposed to be a WCW PPV held on New Year's Eve, 1999, to bring in the year 2,000 with help from the even-then-geriatric rock band KISS. However, WCW was just about in its death throws by that point, and management conflicts led to the PPV never taking place. Instead, the December 27th episode of Nitro that year was known as New Years Evil.
And now that storied tradition will carry on with the appropriately desperate Black and Gold Brand, NXT, holding a New Years Evil episode of the show on January 6th, 2021. That'll show AEW for stealing Sting! From WWE.com:
Ready for 2021? Prepare to ring in the new year with the black-and-gold brand!
NXT will present New Year's Evil on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
How will the Superstars of NXT kick off 2021? What will the new year hold for champions Finn Balor and Io Shirai? Who will step up to take center stage, as the calendar turns toward a new era for the black-and-gold brand?
Find out by tuning in to NXT New Year's Evil, Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 8/7 C on USA Network.
No word yet on what will be on the card, but another promo aired at NXT Takeover WarGames last night teasing the return of Karrion Kross. Kross's gimmick could certainly help drive an "evil" theme for the show, especially if he starts complaining about the election being stolen by Donald Trump or the coronavirus being a hoax. The only question now is: what is KISS up to these days? Triple H better give Gene Simmons a call.
