Brightest Day "Not Light And Brighty" – Geoff Johns
Okay, that was funny.
Since Brightest Day was first teased, and in conjunction with Marvel's more clear-cut Heroic Age, I've been describing the perceived movement as "light'n'brighty", as opposed to the usual term "grim'n'gritty".
Well it appears that at least one person was reading Bleeding Cool. In a post on DC Source, showing an Aquaman cover to Brightest Day, a live Aquaman looking at the reflection of his Blackest Night incarnation, Geoff Johns stated;
'Brightest Day' is about second chances. I think it's been obvious from day one that there are major plans for the heroes and villains from Aquaman to take center stage in the DC Universe, among many others, post-Blackest Night. 'Brightest Day' is not a banner or a vague catch-all direction for the DC Universe, it is a story. Nor is 'Brightest Day' a sign that the DC Universe is going to be all about 'light and brighty' superheroes. Some second chances work out…some don't.
Okay, that was a slight "drop-my-bacon-sandwich" moment, but it does at least give us a hook to hang our hat on. As previously rumoured, "second chances" does seem to be about a return to life for some of the DC superheroes who have recently met sticky ends. And the affected books that feature said characters will be part of the overall story.
