Five Thoughts About Fantastic Four #600

So I have read Fantastic Four #600. Well, some of it anyway. A good half. Now this is not a place for spoilers, more a place for… flavours. And here is a tasting menu.

1. Things Fall Apart

This is where it all comes togther. Jonathan Hickman's byzantine plans in Fantastic Four and FF, with protagonists and antagonists all over the place. Indeed the first couple of pages of Fantastic Four #600 are devoted simply to explaining who and where everybody is, beofre we deal with the war breaking out on the strees of New York. Again. And the heroes are directed into specialities, their powers used more imaginatively, inventively and… logically that in a certain recent event comic. And there's even actual emotional resonance here too. But this is not the Fear Itself game of chess, however, this is Mousetrap.

2. It's Bathtime For Gotham

The Franklin backup strip goes back to sixties Fantastic Four continuity, as well as embracing nineties excess in an amazing strip drawn by Farl Dalrymple that is sweet and charming and yet incredibly foreboding for the comic as a whole.

3. Black Bolt Speaks

And not only speaks but tells the truth, as blatantly, as honestly, with the one person who can and will accept him all. Even as things go rather polygamous.

4. Oh And It All Ties In With The Mighty Thor Too.

Haven't been reading Matt Fraction's The Mighty Thor? No? That's a shame. Because the first arc, The Galactus Seed, leads to a major plot point in this book as well. And the Mark Millar/Bryan Hitch FF too. He's tying everything in! I'm betting the pages I didn't read fix the non-ending to All Winners Squad while he's at it.

5. Antagonist Vs Antagonist

Not only does the book have heroes having to deal with the villains' plans, but other villains have to do the same. Just how does your world conquering plan get affected when someone else has a world conquering plan getting in the way of your doo hickeys? Most enjoyable.
