NYCC: Sanya Anwar And 1,001
One of the greatest joys of comics conventions is coming across the new, the unexpected, the hidden gems. It's what makes a show for me. And this year, that was the work of Canadian artist, Sanya Amwar. An illustrator turned comic book creator, she's exhibiting two issues of her series 1001, telling the full story of the life of Scherezade, the narrator of Arabian Nights. Mostly exhibiting in Canada, this is her first New York show, and I can see her getting snapped up by publishers any day now. Her clean line style, with beautiful colouring, is somewhere between Jamie McKelvie and Tradd Moore if such a thing were possible, and she's got an eye for a great story too.
You can see some art examples below and, if you're not at NYCC, even download the first two issues of 1001 for free, right here.
