Dynamite To Try New Retailer Incentive To Boost Solar And The Shadow
Remember a few days ago when we posted an article about how retailers may be under-ordering The Shadow: Midnight In Moscow? Seems Dynamite has decided to do something about that as well as on Solar: Man Of The Atom #2.
In a press release Dynamite spoke of the sell outs of their other Gold Key titles including the first Solar, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Magnus: Robot Fighter. We had heard the concerns about The Shadow: Midnight In Moscow being tied to offering only one cover, but Solar #2 had ten in the initial solicitation.
Dynamite's new retailer incentive program is interesting in that it rewards stores that not only increase their orders by the Final Order Cut-Off (FOC), but it is offered to stores who maintain their current order as well. So as long as you don't cut back on your initial order, you can get these special covers.
For Solar: Man Of The Atom #2 it works like this. Any retailer who maintains or increases their orders can get (1) Bob Layon Black & White cover for every (5) Solar #2 issues ordered. You can add this incentive to all of the existing incentives. Also retailers can order (1) Joe Bennett Black & White cover for every (10) Solar #2 issues ordered.
For Howard Chaykin's new The Shadow: Midnight In Moscow #1, any retailer who maintains or increases their orders can get (1) Howard Chaykin Black & White for every (5) issues of the book ordered.
It will be interesting to see what, if any these last minute add on incentives will do to the sales numbers. Since we know that a few days ago The Shadow was at around 8,000 pre-ordered, for the sake of math if we think of those books sold in groups of five, then this program might bump the sales up another 1,600 issues. I'll be keeping an eye out for the actual sales numbers down the line.
