Some Of The Reasons Why We Are So Happy Joe Kelly Is Back on Deadpool (And Ed McGuinness Too)
When Joe Kelly wrote Deadpool, it was the best superhero comic there was. The only problem was that no one was reading it then. Deadpool was an abandoned Rob Liefeld character without a fanbase and not much of a reason to exist. So writer Joe Kelly decided to make it the funniest, cleverest, superhero comic on the stands. But still no one read it, it kept getting almost cancelled and eventually he moved on.
Since then, Deadpool has become one of the more popular characters around, with an upcoming movie to boot from Fox Studios – one that Marvel seem to even acknowledge exists. And Joe Kelly's original run on the series, initially with artist Ed McGuinness has been reappraised as the masterpiece that it is.
And now? Twenty years later, Joe Kelly has returned to the character with Spider-Man/Deadpool. And we realise just what we've been missing all this time. First with Deadpool threatening involuntary sexual assault whilsy in the grips of a demon from hell…
And then not letting that be the end of it, but keeping on pushing….
…before revealing a secret plan to do something utterly ridiculous and serious.
That right there is the best of all Deadpools.
And he's meta too. And his biggest plan?
To literally bring a bag full of brains with him, and turn the Mindless Ones into the dissatisfied…
Quite, quite wonderful. What job? Oh you'll have to read the comic….
Why thank you. And thank you Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness for coming back for one last run around the field….
Also you get Vision #1 for free which is also rather good….
And double your Joe Kelly fun? His Four Eyes: Heart Of Fire #1 is out from Image Comics today Good timing…
