Surgeon X Comic Launches With An App That Utterly Transforms It (UPDATE)
Surgeon X is the new comic book by documentary maker Sara Kenney and artist John Watkiss published by Image Comics, that got plenty of comic industry media attention by the announcement it was to be edited by ex-DC Vertigo EIC Karen Berger.
But it may be making waves for different reasons today.
Kenney didn't give me a clue about this when we talked earlier in the month. But Surgeon X has launched in print in comic stores, and digitally through Image and ComiXology as you might expect.
But it has also launched as an app from Kenney's Wowbagger Productions. (UPDATE – here's the iOS link) Which means you read the first issue of the comic. But the comic itself is full of live moments that will spin off into behind-the-scenes information, character biographies, original line art, a stack of fake news reports from the future, stacks of live action and graphically illustrated documentaries around the themes of the comic books, featuring the creators of the comic book and advisors to its narrative.
If Transmetropolitan had been released today, this is what it would have looked like.
Right! Off to the Shard for the launch…
