A Terminal Pulp Full Of Dazzling Names

Steve Ekstrom writes,

I've always been a little intimidated by Bleeding Cool. You can ask Rich, I've approached him a few times over the years since I left Newsarama with the desire to write some Op/Ed types of things–but, something I couldn't put my finger on kept me from ever pulling the trigger on any of those pieces. And, now, several years down the road, in the second week of my first Kickstarter, I figured it out:

Authenticity

b1

The audience that reads this site is really real. BC's readership, the regulars who inhabit this site on a daily basis, are truly passionate fans of this industry. And, frankly, for the first time in my somewhat irreverent life, I want to feel acceptance.

It's a little surreal; I've spend the last 10 years vying for that acceptance from within the industry, from publishers and established creators. Now, I finally realize that it starts with the readers, the consumers. I don't want to be "anointed" by some gatekeeper-type. I want grass roots authenticity.

And I want to f-cking earn it.

b2

So, here I am with something to show you, pretend I'm Julia Roberts, you guys are Hugh Grant and we're about to share a moment.

Ten days ago, I launched the Kickstarter for the Terminal Pulp Anthology.

Terminal is a 192-page hardcover featuring 10 16-page pulp fiction comics in loosely unified universe. The anthology also features a cover by Phil Hester and Ande Parks as well as a foreword written by Justin Jordan.

b3

I'm not alone in this endeavor. I have 20 other independent creators in tow. Guys like CW Cooke (Solitary), Vito Delsante (Stray), Eric Palicki (No Angel), Justin Peniston (Hunter Black), Mark Bertolini (Scum of the Earth) as well as established talent like Justin Gray (All-Star Western), Jerome Eyquem (Heavy Metal), Matt Brady (The Big Con Job), Troy Brownfield (Blood Queen) and Larry Watts (Army of Darkness) along with some relatively fresh voices like Marco Lopez (Massively Effective), Gene Selassie and António Brandão as well as a few gems that I mostly cherry-picked from the Millar World Forum Talent Search–and that's just the interiors of the anthology.

b4

We also have a lot of good will coming our way from some very talented industry veterans who have volunteered some of their time and talents to the cause:

Jamal Igle (Molly Danger), Marco Rudy (Scarlet Witch), Duncan Rouleau (Multiversity), Valentin Ramon (D4VE), Jeff Johnson (Wonder Man), Rob G (The Couriers), Enkaru Other Worlds (Sparkshooter), Paulo Yonami (Zombie[Side]), Josh Adams (Dr. Who), and Vasilis Lolos (Pirates of Coney Island)

They're combining their talent together to create a two interconnecting 7"x5" prints featuring all of Terminal's protagonists in one huge group shot.

b5

We have two really awesome t-shirts. We have 5"x7" interconnecting prints featuring the wraparound cover art by Phil Hester and Ande Parks. We have Backer Rewards featuring consultation sessions for would-be creators who would like some guidance from guys who have been in the trenches trying to make it happen. Hell, you could probably convince Troy to take his shirt off on Skype if you picked him.

Most importantly, however, we're bringing you TONS of extra digital comics alongside our beautiful hardcover. Close to 600 pages of comics amassed between all 21 of the creators.

And, if you're crazy enough with your disposable income, we'll regale you with a song. (Serious note, people thought I was kidding. My kid sister is a talented musician. She's already writing and recording TWO songs for our first two $500 Backers.)

What do you think, unassuming reader?

b6

We're 21 independent creators who are hungry and wanting to make an opportunity for ourselves and we need your support. None of us are seeking to "get paid". We're seeking a greater opportunity to tell an audience our stories so that maybe, a little further down the road, you'll let us tell you another story or two.

We have 20 days left.

b7

As I'm writing this up, we're just shy of 25% of our funding goal of $20000 to pay for production costs like coloring, some lettering and printing (as well as covering the basic costs of our rewards).

We're actually going give away a digital copy of No Angel #1 from Black Mask courtesy of Eric Palicki to all donors who backed us for $15 or more…and there's more where that came from.

Will you take a few minutes out of your day to check out TERMINAL?

Speaking on behalf of the #TeamTerminal, we'd certainly appreciate it.
