Sony Releases Stunning Ghost of Tsushima Trailer at E3

Sony released some impressive trailers of their upcoming console-exclusive games at their Playstation E3 press conference this evening. Here's the trailer for Sucker Punch's samurai game Ghost of Tsushima.

In the game, you play as a lone samurai in medieval Japan who has to fight a Mongol invasion of Japan. Sucker Punch, the studio that previously made the Sly Cooper and InFamous games, has pulled out all stops — and Sony's resources — to produce a samurai game that appears to have the scope, ambition, and technical complexity that might go even beyond samurai games made by studios in Japan.

Gameplay involves precision swordplay, and I spotted some surprisingly accurate moves such as iaido, the Japanese sword version of the quick draw, as well as other moves. There's also a female samurai character, which is not unusual in Japanese history but certainly uncommon in samurai fiction. Sucker Punch look like they did a lot of research for historical authenticity in this game. The Mongolian invaders are heard speaking their native tongue, unsubtitled, to replicate the Japanese characters' inability to speak to them and see them as alien.

I really hope there will be a Japanese voice track for the main characters.
