Dave McKean is an accomplished comic book writer. screenwriter, artist, and director. His graphic novel Cages and series of films Nine Lives are two of my favourite literary and artist experiences. But he will be best known, 30 years on, for his Sandman covers, at the time a radical departure for DC Comics when it came to cover artwork.
