Saladin Ahmed and Javier Garron Launch a New Miles Morales: Spider-Man in December

Saladin Ahmed and Javier Garron are the creative team behind a new Miles Morales: Spider-Man comic hitting stores in December, the first to not be written by co-creator "The Great One" Brian Bendis, who left Marvel for DC last year after seeing Superman in a museum. The series was revealed EX-X-XCLUSIVELY by  IGN, part of the publisher's mid-month rush to provide EX-X-XCLUSIVE content to compliant media partners ahead of the full reveal of their monthly solicitations. Brian Stelfreeze draws the cover for the first issue, seen below.

In an interview with IGN, Ahmed said of the series:

For my money, Spider-Man is, at his core, a teenage hero. In this book, Miles will be that Spider-Man: battling threats against the community and the city rather than the universe, and trying to do so while dealing with grades and bullies, family and botched dates. This is classic Spider-Man, but very much dealing with modern concerns and realities.

And they also asked Ahmed if he'd gotten the blessing of "The Great One" to write the story.

I've not spoken to Bendis, but he is absolutely brilliant, and his writing was one of the things that brought me back to super hero comics after years away. So of course there's some intimidation factor. But ultimately you have to just respect the work and creation of those who came before you while still being confident enough to put your own stamp on the stuff. Superheroes are myths built with layers of story. If other creators hadn't gone on to help define Peter Parker after Lee and Ditko, we wouldn't have the Spider-Man we know and love today.

Morales will face the Rhino as the first major villain in the book, which will also feature the return of Miles' Uncle Aaron as the Iron Spider. Look for it in stores in December.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
