Netflix Announces Multiple Roald Dahl Animated Series Are Coming
After last night's anime reveals from Netflix, we're somewhat surprised at this other announcement of animated content.
According to Netflix's "See What's Next" Twitter account:
Netflix will adapt the Roald Dahl universe of stories as a new slate of animated event series. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The BFG are just a few of the titles from the author's beloved and award-winning library that will be reimagined for a new generation
Reportedly, Netflix will be adapting Roald Dahl Story Company properties including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilda," "The BFG," "The Twits," "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator," and "George's Marvellous Medicine."
Netflix said it intends to remain faithful to the quintessential spirit and tone of Dahl in a press release about the announcement. The goal is to create a "story universe" that will extend beyond the stories of magical chocolate factories and friendly giants that have already been told.
Felicity Dahl, Roald Dahl's widow, said:
"Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl's stories. This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled."
Vice president of kids & family content at Netflix Melissa Cobb told Variety the Dahl stories may potentially overlap "There will be threads that connect all of them. We want to do the animation in the style of Dahl," she said.
These Netflix Dahl animated series will reportedly begin production in 2019.
