Marvel Announces Fantastic Four Mystery Variant Covers- and Free Copies of FF #6

Unlike the Age Of X-Man secret blind bagged covers, Fantastic Four's Mystery Variant Covers, you'll actually be able to see on the shelf. Though, again, retailers will have to order them sight unseen.

This mystery variant set will run through Fantastic Four issues #6, #7, #8, and #9. And the first Mystery Variant for #6 will be sent free to retailers so they can see what the fuss is about, use it for promotions and can then (ideally) order the following issues accordingly.

This is new twist on the policy of overshipping by Marvel Comics, which used to be Marvel's go-to promotion of choice a few years ago, but this year only saw Avengers #3 and Iceman #1 that we know of receive that treatment, by 50% and 100% respectively.

The numbers here aren't clear, and it seems a way to encourage retailers to up their numbers on #7, #8 and #9 – that is, depending on what's actually on the cover of Fantastic Four #6. Or, I suppose, who drew it.

Fantastic Four #6 will be out on January 16th. Here's the non-mystery standard cover by Esad Ribic which is still very nice.
