ComiXology Bestseller List, 15th February 2019 – Wonder Twins and Magic Order Crack the Top Ten
Matthew Snyder writes,
Welcome to the ComiXology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.
It's DC Domination this week on the digital bestseller list. The final Top 10 score: DC 7, Marvel 2, Image 1. And even with three Batman titles this week (counting The Flash because of the Batman crossover), Superman still wins the crown for top seller.
Seriously, Bats, you can't have Supes beat you like this next month with Detective Comics #1000. Clark will never let you live it down. Ever. Five years from now, when he's weighed down by kryptonite, you'll save him and his family by punching the Lex Luthor/Joker/Doomsday hybrid into the Phantom Zone, and he'll say "Thank you, Bruce. That was impressive. Just as impressive as when I beat you on Batman Day."
So start an advertising blitz and drop some fliers out of the Batplane, Bruce. Because this is one battle you two can't Martha your way out of.
Wonder Twin powers…. Activate! Form of… a really successful debut. Mark Russell and Steven Byrne's Wonder Twins could have ended up anywhere on the list, because this book was a complete wildcard. There is no precedent for a Wonder Twins comic. It could've easily ended up down in the 30's and 40's with Scooby and Snagglepuss. But the hype was real, so the twins cracked the Top 10, debuting one spot higher than Naomi. Wonder Comics is on a roll.
Mark Millar's happy this week. Not only is he raking in that sweet, sweet Netflix money, but his Magic Order mini took a big leap into the Top 10 for its final issue. Now you can brag to all your friends you were a fan before it was everyone else's weekend binge. And speaking of comics being adapted for Netflix, the first two volumes of Umbrella Academy top the Volumes & Graphic Novels chart before the new show premieres today. (And in case you're wondering, they'll be on sale all weekend).
So good news, readers! With so many streaming services desperate for content nowadays, your favorite comic series has never had a better chance at a TV adaptation. What comic would you like to see adapted for Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon, etc.? Leave your comments below just in case a streaming exec is browsing Bleeding Cool looking for some hot IPs. (My picks are American Vampire, Fables and Kaijumax).
And after five years, G. Willow Wilson says goodbye to Ms. Marvel. I know we're all sceptical when it's said a book doing poorly on the Diamond chart has great numbers in digital. And while that was usually untrue (America & Unstoppable Wasp for example), Ms. Marvel did indeed have a strong, loyal digital following. It often made the Top 15 each week it release,d enough to keep it afloat all this time. Will these digital fans be as critical and loyal for Saladin Ahmed's Magnificent Ms. Marvel? Stay tuned.
