Thor Comic Rockets In Value Over Avengers: Endgame (Spoilers)
Earlier this year, copies of The Mighty Thor #390 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz were selling on eBay for anywhere between $2.60 and, when someone got lucky, $16.50. That's no longer the case. As a result of a certain scene in the movie, sales of the issue are way up, going from $50 as high as $71.
Published in 1988, The Mighty Thor #390 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz saw Captain America and Thor fighting side by side – though Steve Rogers was no long Captain America though, he had rejected his country once again as The Captain…
…but this moment proved his worthiness.
Captain America proving worthy to pick up Mjolnir…
… and throw it to Thor in battle was a major moment in the comic book.
And it proved that The Captain was as worthy as he ever was as Captain America.
It would happen again, decades later, in Fear Itself #7 by Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen. And he was totally Captain America here.
This one hasn't quite attracted the speculators though and can still be picked up for a couple of bucks online. But it's Captain America as Captain America, fighting with the hammer and with a bit of lightning action. So if you are interested, run quick on this one. I hear it's just been tipped on Bleeding Cool.
Of course there was that controversial moment on the Secret Empire Free Comic Book Day. But that was a fake out, it was a rewritten hammer, with Worthiness replaced by Strength as a qualifier and wielded by a Hydra Captain America. Still, you never know… and you can pick that up for just a buck.
