'Dino Girl Gauko' is Coming to Netflix Amid Push for Family Programming
Netflix is making a major push for family friendly programming, with shows aimed at kids taking center stage. There's a whole slew of new shows coming to Netflix from all around the world, including Mighty Little Bheem from India, Yoo-Hoo to the Rescue and Larva Island from Korea, Mama K's Team 4 from Zambia, and Maya and the Three from Mexico.
Japan, of course, has produced plenty of content that has landed on Netflix, and now Variety has announced that Akira Shigino's Dino Girl Gauko will be coming to the streaming service late in 2019.
Shigino has worked as a director on episodes of the mega-popular Crayon Shin-Chan, as well as Line Town, Osomatsu-kun, and the remake of Yatterman.
Dino Girl Gauko is a comedy series about a pre-teen girl that lives a pretty average life in Japan, except she turns into a fire-breathing dinosaur when she gets upset. The dinosaur's name is Gauko, and I imagine she's a hit at parties!
There are already plans to enter an episode of Dino Girl Gauko into competition at the 2019 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Gauko looks like she shares a lot of the DNA of Crayon Shin Chan, at least as far as the art style goes. We'll see how everything looks when Dino Girl Gauko hits Netflix later this year!
