"Shadow and Bone": Netflix Casts 7 More for Fantasy Novel Series Adapt

Netflix's Shadow and Bone is turning into one of about three upcoming series that might just be employing every SAG card-carrying actor in the world, with Deadline Hollywood reporting exclusively that newcomer Calahan Skogman, Zoë Wanamaker (Killing Eve, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), Kevin Eldon (Game Of Thrones), Julian Kostov (Treadstone), Luke Pasqualino (Snatch), Jasmine Blackborow (School's Out Forever, Aamir), and Gabrielle Brooks (Young Vic Theatre's Twelfth Night, Regents Park Theatre's Midsummer Night's Dream) all set for recurring roles.

Created, written, and executive produced by showrunner Eric Heisserer (Bird Box), the eight-part series adaptation covers Leigh Bardugo's bestselling "Shadow and Bone" and "Six of Crows" Grishaverse fantasy novels. Production on the first season is currently underway in Budapest, also starring Ben Barnes, Freddy Carter, Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Sujaya Dasgupta, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, and Simon Sears.

Shadow and Bone is set in a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh – and a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins, and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.

● Wanamaker's Baghra is a ruthless teacher and trainer, determined to hone the power of each of her charges.

● Eldon's the Apparat is the mysterious spiritual advisor to Ravka's royal family.

● Kostov's Fedyor is a free-spirited Heartrender and loyal follower of General Kirigan.

● Pasqualino 's David is a brilliant Fabrikator who feels most at ease with his nose buried in a scientific treatise.

● Blackborow's Marie is an Inferni who tries to teach Alina the social rules of the Little Palace.

● Brooks' Nadia is a Squaller who befriends Alina despite opposition from Zoya.

Heiser and Bardugo executive produce alongside Pouya Shahbazian (Divergent series), Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry for 21 Laps Entertainment.
