REVIEW: Miles Morales The End #1 — "A Fitting Send Off For A Hero Just Starting To Forge A Legacy"
(Marvel Comics, creative team: Saladin Ahmed, Damion Scott, Dono Sanchez-Almara, Cory Petit)
Decades from now, in an all-too-possible future, an infection of gigantic germs will sweep across the nation almost ending civilization. One shining beacon of hope and sanity will remain: Brooklyn, protected by "the mayor," a gray but vital Miles Morales. At the gates are not Huns, but angry members of the "One America Army," led by a bootleg super soldier with a stolen, broken shield and mask calling himself Captain Last. A little heavy handed? Yes, it surely is, but the grace and maturity of Miles Morales, a bred hero, is a super compelling part of this story, galvanized by his memory of all he lost. Likewise, the action scenes are big and bracing, literally pulling no punches as they seem almost too much to hold on the page. The visuals on the quieter moments, however, might be too busy for their own good (and not in a Jack Kirby way) and the supporting cast a bit too flat for the needs of the story. If you're a Miles Morales fan, this is a fitting send off for a character just starting to forge a legacy beyond the shadow of senior spiders. RATING: HONORABLE MENTION.
