That Nova Digital Comic – Avengers Vs X-Men Infinite #1
So I was slightly confused by the announcements at SXSW, conflating certain aspects of Marvel AR and Marvel Infinite Comics into each other. Handily, Marvel have just made it a little clearer.
So, Avengers Vs X-Men #1 Infinite, from Mark Waid and Stuart Immonen, with the new Nova, can be bought on April 4th on the Marvel Comics App, or free with a code found in print copies of Avengers VS X-Men #1 or included with the purchase of the digital version.
Gotcha. Not sure what that means for people buying copies at the Avengers Vs X-Men #1 at the launch parties the previous evening, but I hope Marvel make it clear.
Marvel Infinite Comics are intended to use digital storytelling possibilities. Whether that be infinite canvas, three dimensional background/foregrounds, multi-directional action, or other elements such as animation, sound, or games has yet to be defined. Could be something like this, could be something totally different.
And the Marvel AR App will let you bring certain print comics to life by scanning them, and viewing video, animation, interviews, and production materials in the comics. And a QR Code for this will also be in Avengers Vs X-Men #1. No wonder Marvel have been pushing this so hard, almost to the level where they might just break even on the first issue. They are pushing this new technology to as wide a base as possible.
Marvel have been repeatedly mentioning the idea of offering added value for a 20 page $3.99 comic, such as digital downloads, and now augmented reality. Some people however will only be satisfied with those extra pages…
