Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 19th July 2014 – Batman Now, Flash Then

BM-Cv33-8c31d (1)Sorry for they delay folks. I'm sure you realise why….

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

For the first time since we started running this list, every single store had one title in first place, Batman #33 knocking back Batman Eternal, as did Amazing Spider-Man introducing a new female spider-character, Silk. Saga also burst onto the charts, as did a certain death in the ironically titled Life Of Archie.

And in the back issues this week, everyone appears to be stocking up on The Flash.

  1. Batman #33
  2. Amazing Spider-Man #4
  3. Batman Eternal #16
  4. Batman & Robin #33
  5. Saga #21
  6. Futures End #12
  7. Superman #33
  8. Original Sin #5.2
  9. Secret Origins #4
  10. Life With Archie #37

Who had this to say…

Great week in comics! We knew that Batman #33 would be #1 this week without even checking. So many people came to the shop for Batman day and to specifically buy that book. Batman Day went better than expected with tons of customers showing up wearing Batman shirts and even a bunch came in costume! Solid event all around. Batman & Robin sold great this week, coming off of the Robin Rises one-shot , this book has gained a ton of new readers here. Great to see some indie favorites make it into our Top Ten. Saga as always, but also Trees! Johns & Romitas second issue of Superman together sold slightly under what the first issue did. Lets hope that trend doesn't keep going! Finally, the two new Doctor Who books from Titan did extremely well. Not only did we see customers picking up both but a bunch got not only the Phantom Variants, but also multiple regular cov! ers as well. The Doctor Who Fans are excited about this one!

Flash back issues from the NEW 52 have been selling like crazy the last few weeks. Hype from the upcoming show is driving this 100%

Batman at $4.99? No problem it is still king of the hill. Batman variant covers? No problem people will just pick up the various titles they are a part of. Aquaman sold out on Thursday thanks to the Batman variant cover even though we increased our orders. All the DC titles that had Batman variants had a great boost this week. Secret Origins with Harley Quinn is selling the best ever out of it's four issue run. Flash is getting hot thanks to the hype of his upcoming T.V. series. One of the greatest Wednesdays we have ever had sales wise.

The New 52 issues of the Flash are being eaten up. Again the Flash T.V. show hype is really getting people interested. Batgirl New 52 issues are suddenly in high demand. Deadpool back issues? Wish we had some to meet the demand.

Great week for books even though i did not get everything. Batman and Amazing Spider-Man would have had larger sale numbers, possibly 25-30% higher. Batman Eternal still chugging along like a reliable steam engine and people picking up large runs at a time.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman are the huge sellers of the back-issue market this week. People looking for anything they can get. Flash is picking up steam with customers filling in issues before they get scarce due to the new television show

Batman Day was a huuuuuuge success. Like a junior FCBD. 150% of a good Wednesday.
Lots of confusion that with Archie dead, he was now a zombie in Afterlife.
Sold out of Doctor Who on Weds, so that kind of neutered Doctor Who Day.

Daredevil #6 and Saga #21 just missed the cut. Groo vs. Conan #1 sold out pretty quickly

Batman and Spider-Man keep dominating their weeks of release. No surprise there with Zero Year finale, Robin Rises, and people still enjoying Eternal. Love seeing Saga in the top ten. Not just because its a great book but because of how many non-comic readers its brought into the store. I've sold collections and single issues of Zero, Manhattan Projects, Rat Queens, Fatale, Y the Last Man, Ex Machina, Sex Criminals and more to people who never would have walked in if not for Saga.
Big Archie week for us as well with two books making our top ten sellers. Afterlife is a huge hit with our customers. Whether they loved it or hated it (I heard plenty from both sides) people came back for the second chapter of Johns & JRJR's Superman. Good sales week all around.

People who missed out on the first part of Original Sins: Thor & Loki are clamoring for second printings. Same with Wolverine: 3 Months to Die.

A killer week with everyone wanting to showcase their best stuff for SAN DIEGO COMIC CON. Made for an outrageous Diamond bill, but also translated into the stores having something for everyone this week which also equates into a higher than normal NEW COMIC sales day. Batman #33 (final part of Year Zero) killed the competition with nothing even coming close to the sales #'s that book pulled this week.

Speculators were all over 5 Ghosts of Fabian Grey once the news of it's being optioned hit the Internet. Too bad they weren't reading it when it came out.
