Bloodshot Salvation #10 Review: Building the Tension
Jessie is okay, but she's changed. She's aged to and is no longer a baby or a toddler. She is an elementary school-aged girl now, and she can speak and read with ease. Magic and Capshaw want to know what happened, but the Scarred Man and Omen have detected Jessie's location and are moving in on G.A.T.E. Meanwhile, Bloodshot and Bloodhound have arrived in the year 4002 and have a mission to carry out for Baron Samedi.
Bloodshot Salvation #10 is gearing up for the big finale to these plot threads and conflicts. The Scarred Man and the Gray Man are moving in on Jessie and Magic. Ray is upholding his deal with a literal devil. Things are about to come to a head.
Also, there are dinosaurs in this comic, and I will always approve of the presence of dinosaurs.
These details are to say that this issue is mostly build-up. There are no moments of crescendo apart from Bloodshot fighting dinosaurs. The big bang is yet to come. This comic is just moving the pieces into place for it.
As such, it's exciting, but not especially satisfying. It's not meant to be so. It wants you hyped for the big blow out, and it does a decent job of doing so.
The artist on this issue is Doug Braithwaite, and his work is impeccable. The detailing is thorough and appealing, the fight scenes have punch to them, and Bloodshot's figure is imposing. The framing is played with creatively at times too. Jordie Bellaire provides the color art for this issue, and the palette is gorgeous, well-balanced, and build atmosphere.
Bloodshot Salvation #10 is a good build-up issue. Omen is moving in on Jessie, Ray has been flung into the far future, and a big blowout between Omen and Ray's allies is on the way. Braithwaite and Bellaire do excellent work on the visual front, and this comic earns a recommendation for it all. Check it out.
