Booze Geek: Supa Hero IPA

Clown Shoes Supa Hero India Pale AleDylan Gonzalez writes:

Beer: Supa Hero IPA

Brewery: Clown Shoes

Clown Shoes Brewery, based out of Ipswich, Massachusetts, has produced a number of beers based on super-hero imagery, alongside other geeky concepts (kung-fu, vampires, medieval monsters, etc.). The three notable ones are Supa Hero, Miracle and Galactica. Supa Hero and Miracle are currently not in production, but I managed to track down those two (plus Galactica) in my hunt for geeky beer. Today, we look at Supa Hero.

Supa Hero is an orange-brown in color, like dark amber. It pours a strong head that lasts. I could not detect any highly active carbonation just by looking at it.

The beer produces an extremely hoppy scent, dank if you will. I found that some traces of grapefruit were present. The hoppiness is reciprocal in the taste. Supa Hero is very bitter and the dankness of the hops is also present here. Surprisingly, some malt flavor was coming through in an otherwise very hoppy beer.

I found that the carbonation was actually very distinct on the palate. The beer itself felt thick and left a bitter aftertaste on my tongue. Overall, this is an IPA that meets its merits. The malt flavor adds some interest, but overall, it is a fairly standard, hoppy IPA.

What to Drink This To:

Gee, I'm not really sure. What could Supa Hero be good to drink to?

Okay, sarcasm aside, since super-heroes rule the comic book world and now further outlets of media, literally anything could work here. Grab something from your stack of comics or throw on your favorite super-hero flick.
