Could May Reilly, Lady Spider, Be The Next Spider-Gwen?
The first appearance of Spider-Gwen is rocketing up the charts.
But could another female Spider-Man be about to challenge her?
From the week's Spider-Verse #1, here comes May Reilly, Lady Spider. Combining Spider-ness and steampunk, she seems built for cosplay – with a steampunk villain's gallery to boot.
Who will be the first on the con scene to be seen dressed as her? Will there be demands for a spinoff series of her own? Is this the ground floor for Spider-Man expanding its franchise in the manner that Batman has? They can support both a Batgirl and a Batwoman title, can Spider-Man manage Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen and Lady Spider as well?
Can't see why not. The steampunk aspect may be a key factor here. Thoug she may of course not survive Spider-Verse. And another colleagues who had evaded Morlun, doesn't seem to have made it out of Time Runs Out... poor little Spider-UK.
But there's plenty to love in Spider-Verse #1, my favourite probably being the newspaper strip universe that Morlun invades where everyone summarises what is happening every three of four panels to his great aggravation.
But could we, right at the beginning…
..be seeing an origin? Could the Master Weaver…
…actually be Uncle Ben? With great power, etc etc…
