Three Flash, Four Action Comics And Four Batman And Robin Comics In September Too… The Race For Marketshare (UPDATE)
It can't have escaped Bleeding Cool readers notice that DC Comics' marketshare has been slipping month on month. To levels not seen since before the Flashpoint event and the DC New 52. While sales are up for the market as a whole, so that DC Comics are certain making more money than two years ago, their marketshare has visibly fallen back, with Marvel increasing their dominance.
It's certainly nothing like October 2011 when DC Comics gained half the marketshare. But this September might see DC Comics grab a little of it back.
As well as the launch of the Forever Evil series from Geoff Johns and David Finch, we have four issues of Batman, four of Detective Comics, four of Dark Knight and four of Batman And Robin as of yet, but adding on the other Batbooks will see that family take almost half of the New 52. There will also be four Action Comics, and three Flash comics too. More multiple comics to come as well, I'm sure. These are some of DC's highest selling titles, and with all the books hitting $3.99 for one month only, one could see DC if nothing else, gaining a dollar marketshare majority on Marvel Comics.
High sales may also make the case for a Batman weekly title. Originally planned for later this year, they were dropped, but may have left their legacy by giving us four issues of the separate Batbooks in September. If they do well, see this as another way to increase the amount of books while still maintaining a New 52 headline.
Now… What on earth are they going to do with the rest of the Superman titles. Will we get four Unchained and four Superman? We know that there is at least Bizarro and H'El.
Oh and here are those Action Comics, Batman And Robin and Flash solicitations courtesy of the New York Post…, Newsarama and Zap2it.
