Haeser, Hasson And Smith Return To The Living Corpse

The Living Corpse is a very interesting comic. It tells the tale of John Romero (a likely hat tip to George Romero), who was a loving husband and father until he died and came back as a zombie. Romero eat the brains of the first two people he came across and then regained his awareness. To his horror he finds the two he ate were his wife and daughter. He was able to save his son. Romero went on to become a protector of humanity and the gatekeeper between humanity and the world of the dead. While his son, filled with rage, is determined to find the corpse that was once his father and destroy it. That's a pretty dark origin.

The book is by Ken Haeser, Buz Hasson and Blair Smith and was first published by Zenescope Entertainment and then Dynamite Entertainment. There was even a crossover with Hack / Slash. Haeser has since become a regular cover artist for Dynamite having worked on Army of Darkness, Evil Ernie, Grumpy Cat, Red Sonja and Vampirella.

Now the creative team is getting back together for the 10th anniversary and are putting together a 160+ page original graphic novel, The Living Corpse: Relic.

The OGN will pick up where The Living Corpse: Exhumed left off. Romero has left his job as the gatekeeper and is trying to find peace in a temple in Tibet, but he is called back into action when an ancient evil with ties to the Living Corpse's past rises from a sealed tomb in Egypt.

The book is being done as a Kickstarter project that includes many different options, some including digital bundles of previous issues, sketch covers and even original art. My favorite is probably the bumper sticker.
