Just In Time For Halloween, 'Jughead: The Hunger' Gets Series
Archie Comics has finally granted fans' wishes, announcing that Jughead: The Hunger will become an ongoing series this October — just in time for Halloween. According i09, the series will pick up after the events of the standalone issue. If you missed it, I did review the comic, and I loved the heck out of it.
To surmise, Jughead is a werewolf. He's managed to control his hunger for years, but eventually he caved into it. After mauling Reggie to death, Jughead skips town. We learn that Betty is a werewolf hunter who comes from a long line of hunters, and she's been keeping tabs on Jughead for years. This was honestly one of Archie's best oneshots to date, and I'm thrilled they're finally turning it into a series, which will be handled by Frank Tieri and The Kennedy Brothers.
I follow a few Archie fan pages online, and by far the Archie horror stories are arguably a favorite with longtime fans. With many of the reboot comics going on hiatus, I'm sincerely hoping this means horror comics will become more of the focus, as well as the digests and the upcoming Your Pal Archie comic. I think the classic story lines and the horror comics are a good balance for Archie. The reboots weren't bad, but other than Chip Zdarsky's run on Jughead, I wasn't enthralled by them. Here's hoping Archie can keep up the momentum with their current lineup!
