Kevin O'Neill's Comic Mek Memoirs, Back In Print After 46 Years
Dark & Golden Books are a new British publisher named after the first British comic book store, Dark They Were And Golden-Eyed, itself named after the Raymond Bradbury short story. And they are putting back into print comic books long lost to history, stating that "Dark & Golden Books are dedicated to charting a less travelled course through the history of British comics, finding and celebrating mislaid and forgotten classics for the audience of today in new high-quality editions." Such as the 1976 comic classic, Mek Memoirs. Drawn by Kevin O'Neill, it was this comic that he used to pitch his work to Pat Mills at 2000AD and launched his career.
Newly created from scans of the original artwork, this facsimile edition comes wrapped in 8 pages of unseen material and reminiscences by artist Kevin O'Neill and writer Chris Lowder, including a brand-new cover by O'Neill, created especially for this edition. In accordance with Kevin O'Neill's wishes, the comic has been reprinted without staples as was originally published. As a result, Mek Memoirs is published in an envelope alongside a bonus print of a contemporaneous O'Neill artwork.
