In 1986 Neal Pozner wrote a new Aquaman mini-series and came up with a new design for costume, basically a undersea camouflage. It was a dramatic shift from the classic orange and green everyone was used to. Where it made great tactical sense it wasn't really a hit with the fans.
Well now an Australian Swimmer named Hamish Jolly has worked with a group of scientist to come up with a shark deterrent wet suit… and it looks kind of familiar. (Thanks to Sciencedump.com)
The suit is designed to work with the knowledge we have about sharks vision. In the following Ted Talk video, Jolly explains how the suit works and the impetuous behind it. Seems like they could have saved a lot of time just by reading comic books.
