MACC-POW – Macclesfield's One Day Comic Art Festival

Marc Jackson writes,

This Summer sees the return of the one-day comic art festival in my hometown of Macclesfield, in Cheshire on Saturday 1st of July 2017.
My concept last year and for our second year is the same, to bring my love of comics and comic art to the people of my town. It has a strong focus solely on the comic art, bringing known creators such as Lew Stringer, Paul Grist, David Leach, Leah Moore and John Reppion, together with up and coming creators and even newcomers to the world of comics. Also returning are the fantastic WOW comix from Sale in Manchester, with there impressive back issue collection that has to be seen to be believed!!

In doing this event, I hope to bring more people to the town from outside, tempted by our international creators and line-up in genera. This will then show them what else the town has to offer, whilst putting Macclesfield on the map as a comics destination, that stands alongside such events as Thought Bubble and LICAF in Kendal.

This year we are situated right in the centre of the town, in the Town Hall building and also have a number of truly unique elements too. Last year we had a live Q&A with US cartoonist James Kochalka, who also sent over 30 of his little paintings to sell on the day. It was a very successful and interactive part of the day, that including James showing us his latest work, singing one of his songs and even showing us the ashes of his much loved cat and American Elf star, Spandy! This year, James is back and we also welcome indie comics brightest star Tillie Walden, who has recently completed work on her amazing comic onasunbeam.com She'll be chatting about comics from her base at the time, the city of Berlin! We'll also have a member of the Schultz creative team, Denis St. John, who will be running a 15 minute 'How to draw Snoopy' class for all the attendees live from California!

And if that wasn't enough, we'll also be showcasing some classic cartoons on the day on the big screen, plus showing two episodes of the Batman TV show from the 1960's, in a truly family friendly event. Who knows what else might happen, at MACC-POW! anything goes!!

Here's our esteemed guest Lew Stringer's thoughts on last year's event, to wet your appetite for this year…
