Brooklyn's Mama Says Comics Rock is Reported to Be Closing (UPDATE)

When Brooklyn's much-loved Bergen Street Comics closed in September 2015, comic fans Cade Schreger and Davey Kourtesis opened their own store. Mama Says Comics Rock opened on Degraw Street in the spring of 2016. Sadly, it doesn't look like it will last two years.

Mama Says Comics Rock

Only 25 years old now, they were Cobble Hill's youngest storefront business owners. And the store, was much admired, became a community hangout place with a strong family appeal and regular official signings. But it's a tough market right now wherever you are. Details of the closing are not known, there is nothing on the website, Facebook page or Instagram and no response from the store.

However, those on their pull lists received an announcement email about closing dates and when they could pick up our last subscriptions. One customer tells me, "It's a total bummer and huge loss, since Mama's serviced at least two 'hoods here in Brooklyn."

Brooklyn's Mama Says Comics Rock is Reported to Be Closing (UPDATE)

Bleeding Cool covers the closing – and opening – of comic book stores. We're more likely to discover the former rather than the latter, as the result of an active fanbase, so please let us know when a new store in your neighbourhood is opening as well as closing – richjohnston@gmail.com

UPDATE: Here's the letter:

If you're receiving this message, it means that you have a subscription/pull list set up here at Mama Says Comics Rock.

Sadly, the reason for this message is to announce that we will be closing our doors for business this upcoming February 25, 2018. These past few years have truly been some of the best of our lives, and it could never have been possible without you, so we want to sincerely thank you for all the time and energy you've given to the shop. It meant the world to us.

Now for a few logistics:

The last day we will be receiving new inventory is for the week of February 14th, 2018 and all of your pulls will be honored through that week. Additionally, you'll have until that upcoming Monday, February 19 to pick up any/all pulls that you might have left at the store. After that date, any remaining comics will go out into general inventory (if you know you'll need to pick up between February 19-25, please let us know!).

We will also be having a closing party on Friday, February 23rd (details/info to follow on Facebook and our website) and hope to see you all there! Finally, we'll be having a massive closing sale during that final week (Feb 19-25, details to come) so please come in and snag some books you've had on your mind – we're looking at you, $99.99 Rebirth Omnibus.

Again, we truly can't thank you all enough and we look forward to seeing you in these upcoming weeks for a chat, a drink, or maybe just some comics.
