Marvel Comics Announces 'Divided We Stand' Relaunch For Fall 2016

Marvel PR have given the actual official scoop and art (though we did a pretty good job of piecing it together) to the wonderful folk at FastCoCreate. You know, the guys who when DC Comics gave the official PR announcing Before Watchmen, decided to get comment from Alan Moore who condemned the whole thing – and had DC PR screaming down the phone at them as a result. So we approve.

This is a little less controversial. The name for Marvel's latest relaunch is Marvel Now: Divided We Stand.

With Marvel EIC Axel Alonso saying,

"It's a glimpse as to whom we can point to in the coming year, with just enough "What the heck's going on there' spots to get people speculating. 'There's no Tony Stark in that picture, but who's that guy holding the helmet? Is that Doctor Doom?"

Yes, Axel, it is. Mike Deodato draws him as Vincent Cassel.

"The young girl in the gray armor looks a lot like the new War Machine . . ."

Yes, that's Riri Williams, who Bendis said is the new War Machine, seriously, are we the only ones reading this stuff?

But we get this promise.

"They're all there because they matter… They'll either be in a solo series, or they'll be a key member of a team, or they'll do something that you will be talking about in a Marvel book that will bring them into a position of prominence. They're there for a reason. Including that big, big, big what appears to be a Godzilla foot."

American Kaiju from New Avengers, surely, Axel?

Again, we're reading the comics…. Axel Alonso is also pushing the diversity of the line-up.

"Looking at the teaser now, I'm noticing for the first time that you've got five caucasian characters in the mix, five African-American characters, a Korean-American Hulk—it's more diverse than I ever would have imagined, and I think that's a good thing."

While FastCoCreate, when describing one of the shots, says "On the side lining up behind the as-yet-unnamed character in armor…."

Seriously, it's Riri Williams! How much more announced can you get?
