Marvel Comics To Match Retailers Orders For Power Man & Iron Fist #1 With #2, For Free

STK698498Marvel are stepping up to support the launch of their new Power Man & Iron Fist series by David Walker and Sanford Greene by matching every retailers orders for issue 2 of the series with what they ordered for issue 1, for free.

It's standard practice for comic book retailers to order high for a first issue, but drop orders for a second issue down as low as half. They know that the first issue is more likely to be sampled by new readers but it won't be to everyone's taste so they may not return for a second. Retailers, more than anything, don't want to be stuck with comics they feel they are unable to sell.

The first issue. Especially if a Marvel comic, often has tiered variant covers to encourage retailers to over order. The plan is sometimes to see just how many they can actually sell if they have them on hand, to combat the natural conservative ordering nature of any businessman.

And while advance reorders for the second issue have received a bump, Marvel seems to believe that they could do with another one.

Some retailers may use this deal to give away copies for sampling, to discount the issue to encourage purpose, or to encourage retailer hand selling as the effective profit margin on each copy sold to the customer is doubled…
