Obama's Supreme Court Nominee Also A Comic Book Fan

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 16: Judge Merrick B. Garland speaks after being nominated to the US Supreme Court as U.S. President Barack Obama looks on, in the Rose Garden at the White House, March 16, 1016 in Washington, DC. Merrick currently serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and if confirmed by the US Senate, would replace Antonin Scalia who died suddenly last month. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)President Obama's choice for the new Supreme Court justice appointee is one Merrick Garland, a moderate federal appeals court judge and former prosecutor.

The very decision for Obama to appoint a new justice in his last year in office to replace the late Antonin Scalia was a matter of controversy for some. And for others, not choosing a liberal activist, maybe someone who wasn't an old white man from Harvard, may also be a disappointment.

But there's something else to consider. It's been established that Obama is our Geek In Chief. A fan of Spider-Man and Conan comics from the good old days, he has continued to portray a geek-friendly administration.

And Garland was also a comic book fan, who made the greatest sacrifice possible. As Obama said,

And he put himself through Harvard Law School by working as a tutor, by stocking shoes in a shoe store, and in what is always a painful moment for any young man, by selling is comic book collection.

It's tough. Been there.

And it's an even greater shame that Jack Kirby's family didn't take it to the Supreme Court now. Let's see what the Senate says….
