Aaron Haaland of A Comic Shop in Orlando, Florida writes:
Hey Fandom! I'm back from New York and ready to rock this week's books! I had a blast at the Need For Speed premiere and met Aaron Paul, Atom Freeman made mine Valiant, and Stuart Schreck of DC gave me one last office tour before they move to Burbank.
DC made me very happy with Green Lanterns/Red Lanterns #28! I'm not a fan of Guy's mustache, but other than that what's not to like about 40 pages for $2.99? I also can't wait for Charles Soule's signing party here on Saturday (2.8.14). Forever Evil #5 gave us a first look at the Justice League to come. And the Joker's Daughter one shot actually made me start to like the character.
Marvel had plenty of All New's now. Loki was a very promising first issue. Punisher and Black Widow put a flag in the Edmonson corner of the Marvel U. Ms. Marvel picked the best writer they possibly could for this books, and as a result hooked me. At first I was wary of new characters that seem positioned to get media coverage, and the history of heroes from non-white cultures in comics is spotty at best, but this was both authentic and engaging. Wolverine #1 was just weird, I mean I love Superior Spider-man, I'm a fan of change. I'm gonna need a few more issue of this new status quo before I'm sold on it.
Archer and Armstrong #0 firmly planted it in the Valiant Universe (the third largest shared super hero universe in comics). Turok #1 for Dynamite delivered, solid writing and art and a great launch for the Gold Key line.
In closing, I really want to encourage anyone who stopped reading Green Lantern when Geoff Johns left to pick up #28 this week! It's 2.8.14, it's 40 pages for $2.99, and it's Guy Gardner with a mustache!
