Come Out For A School Organized Comic Con In Birmingham This Saturday
By Olly MacNamee
With the countdown to the Summer Holidays upon us in Britain (yes, that's right America, our kids are still in school through most of July) many a Junior School are turning their attention to school trips and summer fetes. But, one small school in Birmingham has decided to turn their school, Water Mill School, into a comic-con this coming Saturday 27th June.
For the students at the school, they will be enjoying Asterix and The Big Fight (1989) on the Friday, while the school opens its gates to the general public, mums and dads, friends and family on the Saturday with a fun-filled day of events including Birmingham schools' favourite Laura Howell (The Beano) and the legendary Hunt Emerson (Firkin The Cat) both delivering a Comic Writing Workshop, as well as a garrison of Stormtroopers, video games and various arts and crafts activities. Organized by comic book fan, Damian Johnson, this is a very different affair to the usual tombolas and raffle-ticket school fairs and all for just £3.
So, if you are in Birmingham on Saturday with your kids, get on down to Water Mill School and join in the fun. I'll see you there.
