DC Vertigo Brings Back The Witching Hour For Dead Boy Detectives

On Front Row, on BBC Radio 4 this week, novelist Toby Litt told the host about writing a comic book for DC Comics based on characters created by Neil Gaiman. Talking about trilogies, he said;

I was doing a comic book for DC which used some of Neil Gaiman's characters, so he had to say okay. And he came back, he liked the idea but he thought it should be a trilogy

It's easy, first part the characters get into trouble, second part they get into more trouble, and third part they get out of trouble. Now I think you just need to include a bit more getting into trouble in the third book and you've got the Lord Of The Rings there. Its a good way of taking your characters on an extended journey.I think trilogies do civilisations. Novels can do societies, but triligies can give the reader a real idea of expanse

I'm told to look for a new comic, reviving an old DC trademark, The Witching Hour. Vertigo revived that once before for a prestige format series by Jeph Loeb and Chris Bachalo, which is one of their finest works, but it hasn;t been touched for a while…
