Geeking Out in the Kitchen- C is For Cookie

By Will Romine, Age 32.

Hi ho! Welcome to "Geeking Out in the Kitchen", where I test and evaluate fandom based cooking equipment and give my honest feedback.  Today's review is a double header.  I will be reviewing two different cookie cutter sets and sharing my wife's recipe for cumin cookies.  Away we go!

First, we have Tetris Cookie Cutters.  These cookie cutters come in the shape of tetrominos (That's an actual word.  I know, I had to look it up too!) and bring us a new way to play with your food.

Much like the pieces in the game, the cookie cutters are designed to interlock.  Many of us, in our pursuit to use every scrap of cookie dough, sometimes find ourselves sacrificing perfectly good bits of dough that don't get captured in the footprint of our cookie cutters. Not so with these.  Each piece of dough can fulfill its calling as a fully baked cookie.

Next, the Star Trek Cookie Cutters.  This set of five cookie cutters depict a phaser, Spock's LLAP sign, a Starfleet logo, the Klingon Empire logo, and the Starship Enterprise.  The cookie cutters are spring loaded, allowing you to pop the dough out of the mold with ease.  In theory.  In practice, I found it a little difficult to extract the dough without warping the shape.  In time, I got a little better, but don't expect Food Network grade cookies your first time out.

Now, the part you've been waiting for, it's cumin cookie time!

This amount makes 15 medium sized cookies.
You will need:
2 cups of plain flour
1/3 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoon cream or milk or beaten egg
1 cup soft butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoon toasted whole cumin

Direction:
Preheat your oven to 350F / 175 C.

Dry toast the cumin seeds lightly in a pan for few minutes until fragrant.

Cream the butter and sugar until sugar has melted.

Mix the flour, salt, cumin seed, baking powder and baking soda together in a separate bowl.

Now add the flour mixture in the butter. Mix it well and sprinkle the milk and form it into a dough. Make it into two balls.

Roll one of the ball into a 5mm thick round and shape with your favorite cookie cutters.

Place them on your baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Cooking time will depend on the temperature of your oven.

Once the side are brown they should be ready.

Now they're ready to enjoy.

Dear Red, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further. You remember the name of the town, don't you? I could use a good man to help me get my project on wheels. I'll keep an eye out for you and the chessboard ready. Remember, Red. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. I will be hoping that this letter finds you, and finds you well. Your friend, Will Romine.
