Increased Buzz The Walking Dead Spin-Off Series May Be A Prequel

walking_dead_still

We heard back in September that AMC was developing a "companion series" to its massively popular zombie series The Walking Dead, and no, they weren't talking about Talking Dead, an after-show discussion program that apparently also rakes in the viewings.

So a spinoff seems quite logical from a business standpoint. As for what the series will be about, nothing official had ever been confirmed, but now spoiler guru Michael Ausiello seems to be stoking the flames a bit:

There's increasing buzz that the offshoot will be a prequel of sorts, one that would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it.

No one at AMC is confirming anything, while creator Robert Kirkman, who will also oversee the spinoff, would only say that the location and cast will be completely different from The Walking Dead, telling IGN:

It definitely won't be set in Georgia… It's important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we've all sold out.

But this is, naturally, still very much in the early stages and nothing is set in stone. A 2015 launch is planned so it may be a while before we get anything concrete. Still, I'd watch a prequel series. Would you?
