Even if you are not into video games, it is incredibly likely you have heard of Halo. On November 6th, the franchise will be adding the 4th installment* of the series. To celebrate, Microsoft and 343 Industries are releasing five episodes under the title Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

This first episode runs at about 20 minutes long and was directed by Sorrority Row's Stewart Hendler. The Halo 4 Limited Edition version will come with a 90 minute extended cut of the entire series. The story is described as:

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" follows a group of cadets who are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC's ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about the war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down.

The series premiered on Machinima Prime's Youtube account:

I found that rather…unremarkable if I am being brutally honest. As much as I like the Halo franchise, it often has a problem handling it's story and this seems to suffer from that very same thing.

Maybe I am still just bitter that the Peter Jackson, Niel Blomkamp and Alex Garland version never saw the light of day, but you might get a kick out of this. If you do, the next episode will hit next Friday.

*If you exclude Halo: Reach and Halo Wars. Which you do because Master Chief isn't in them. Look, just don't ask. Video games have a problem at counting in a straight line.
