Here's a movie that's been on BC's radar since 2011. Joe Lynch's Everly has finished filming (though it has no release date yet), and USA Today got the first photo of Salma Hayek as the titular character, who you can probably tell has been kicking some ass.
Set mostly in one apartment, Hayek's Everly is a down-on-her-luck woman who must fend off a whole bunch of Japanese gangster assassins sent by her ex-boyfriend, a mob boss. Looks like she does just fine defending herself against them. Hayek tells USA Today:
You've never seen me like this before. And I love it. Because you really see a transformation in this character that's noticeable and shocking. I become a badass.
The Yale Hannon script landed on the Black List and has been described as Panic Room meets Crank (with a dash of Kill Bill) but I'm sensing a sprinkling of The Raid too. You know, all those glorious action-heavy thrillers that thrives on keeping the audience at the edge of their seats for the entire ride. Barring any too-gory, throat-slitting type knife play action, I'm intrigued by this one.
