The Last Days of American Crime May Be The First Days of Anthony Mandler's Feature Career

Commercial and video whiz Anthony Mandler, the man who handed out burning torches and ammo belts to Jay-Z, Rhianna, Kanye West and company, is in talks to direct a movie version of The Last Days of American Crime.

Scripted by Karl Gajdusek from the original comic by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini, Last Days of American Crime is set in the wake of a second major terorrist attack on the US. The Government's response is to develop technology that eliminates the criminal impulse, and the hero is the leader of a heist team racing to pull a literal final job in the five days before the signal is activated.

It's a really fun premise, and Mandler is certainly comfortable ripping up and selling off the furniture of American Crime iconography. He's got an interesting eye and if this comes off, I'm honestly curious as to whether we'll get Norman Rockwell Americana of the near future or, well…burning torches and ammo belts.

Mandler may well go for the burning torches as they could come in handy on Vlad, the Charlie Hunnam-scripted vampire movie on the slate at Plan B that Deadline say he is also attached to.
